I formed a Heart Connections Group on Facebook a short time ago. The goal is for people to become more aware of the need and benefits of creating heart connections and then share with other members. Here's my most recent post:

My elderly, frail mother fell and broke her hip a few weeks ago and now is in a wheelchair needing care 24 hours a day. And her mind is slipping. I think she's preparing to say good-bye in her own simple way. I think she has a great deal of fear about dying and I suspect that allowing her mind to check out is a pleasant way to leave this plane without having to concern herself with her fear of the unknown.

For years I've been the only one to cut her white curly hair. She hadn't had a haircut since before her fall. So I went over last week and cut her hair. It was obvious that she was enjoying the attention and I felt my heart gently connecting to hers. It didn't matter that she forgot most of what she was trying to say mid-sentence. Words are not necessary for hearts to connect.

I've carried a warm spot in my heart ever since the day I cut her hair. It's hard but sweet to help her transition into her "next" life.

So I invite you to notice when you feel a heart stirring, a warm fuzzy moment with another person, an extra special connection with a friend or family member... I had one the other day watching an article on a morning talk show.

A little girl was saved from drowning by a man and for her entire life, she's wanted to thank him. She found him and he was invited to be on this show, led to believe that his wife's charity work was going to be honored, but it was all about this woman thanking him. And the amazing thing is that his wife worked at this woman's dentist office and they'd known each other, not realizing that her husband was the mysterious man who saved her life when she was a little girl. My heart just welled up and I connected with their humanity. When that happens, it's truly a moment with God.

Helping mom die, spending 3 entire days with her, just loving her with every cell of our hearts was truly in the presence of God and we all felt it.
